Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning

Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning Geek

In the first glance, Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning is bound to have that Fable / Dragon Age outlook impression. While perhaps not as amazing as advertised or hyped, this game has a real edge over the competitions; the game play. It has achieved a balanced mechanic between combat action and RPG element, also with added dungeon crawler as well. However, the other aspects might not be enough to warrant a place on the apex of RPG games Now, we will talk about: Amalur, Gameplay, and Destinies.

Amalur

Its cartoony medieval setting with vibrant colors is undeniably a reminiscence of Fable's. Although characters are more realized and fully formed, the use of colors can be a bit distracting sometimes. It's vivid and well toned, but the designs are not memorable.

Coupled that with good Reckoning mode, slow mo finisher and you have brutal combat in display. Unfortunately facial expression is very one dimensional, it just makes their singular look more visible.

Gameplay

Gameplay is where Amalur really shines, it's amazing and intuitive, easy to learn but deep enough to customize. Numerous skills like crating, blacksmith, alchemy to engage on, hidden areas and locked chests to uncover, there are definitely plethora of activities and contents to be had. Each skill will take some time to learn, and will prove useful in their specific manner.

If you want to charge head-on with swords and hammers, Might abilities will grant you power to pummel your enemies. Whatever your Destiny is, you'll have the ability to go into Reckoning mode after you gain enough Fate point by killing and fighting.

Destinies

Sadly after mauling hundreds of bandits, boggarts and assortments of nasty population, Amalur gets kind of bland. The different is Dragon Age has great support characters, a trait absent from Amalur.

With silent protagonist, it's hard to invest any emotion to the story. Even if you finish tons of quests, there's basically little change in the world, everything just go on plainly despite your noble deeds, which is ironic because you're supposed to change people's fate. Some faction quests are more attractive, but they are still not interesting enough in the long run. Amalur isn't that inviting, it's a bit cold, to be frank.

I can't see why they can't give lines to personified the main character, or focus it to make one immersive plot line. The dub is great, especially for recurring characters; they have that alluring ancient accent. It has a few glitches, such as crippling frame drop a couple of times, sound might be off in some conversations, or failed interaction for objects and quests.
